Maya Marcel-Keyes says dad’s campaign remarks hurt
Maya Marcel-Keyes reflects on her conservative and homophobic dad’s statements during his Senate campaign, including: “If my daughter were a lesbian, I’d look at her and say, ‘That is a relationship that is based on selfish hedonism.’ I would also tell my daughter that it’s a sin and she needs to pray to the lord God to help her deal with that sin.” Maya says she’s been out to her parents since high school, so “it was kind of strange that he said it like a hypothetical. It was really kind of unpleasant.”
