Grammy winners Basement Jaxx highlight US homophobia


basement jaxx At this year Grammy’s in Los Angeles, Basement Jaxx beat off competition from Paul Oakenfold and The Prodigy to win the award for Best Electronic/Dance album. The band’s Simon and Felix were pleased to have in a category that had been added for the very first time. Ratcliffe said, “It’s nice to be recognized in America because dance music hasn’t figured much in American consciousness for a long time. … I think there’s a bit of a homophobic/gay thing (in America) with house music which is a shame, but for us in England, we’re like ‘Whatever, it’s good music, so it’s cool!’”
